The roads
- Interstate 85: The town's main access sits at Exit 111 at SR 317 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road,with Exits 109 at Old Peachtree Road,113 at the I-985 start,and115 at GA 20 Mall of Georgia just along the corridor.
- US 23 (Buford Highway): The everyday north-south artery through town,the practical corridor between Buford,and the Duluth/Peachtree Corners side.
- SR 317 (Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road): The main access road from I-85 Exit 111 into downtown Suwanee,about two,and a half miles west.
- I-985: Starts at I-85 just east of town,pointing north toward Sugar Hill,Flowery Branch,and Gainesville as a freeway extension of the corridor.
Transit
- Route 50 runs from the Sugarloaf Mills Park-and-Ride through downtown Suwanee to the Mall of Georgia/Coolray Field side of Buford,Monday through Saturday,making the Suwanee-Buford corridor the county's most useful local transit line.
- The Sugarloaf Mills Park-and-Ride,about ten minutes south,is the area's commuter hub:local routes 10A/10B,40,45,and50 plus Xpress commuter routes 410,412,414,and 417 serve the lot into Atlanta,connecting to MARTA rail inside the city.
- There is also an I-985 Park-and-Ride near the I-85/I-985 split for the express routes toward downtown,and every option starts with a drive to a lot,so check the current timetable before building a routine on one.
Realistic drive times
- Downtown Atlanta: about 35 to45 minutes outside the worst of rush hour , I-85 south,45 to75 minutes once the morning peak stacks up
- Lawrenceville: about 15 to20 minutes , southeast on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road
- Gainesville: about 25 to35 minutes , north on I-985/US 23
- Mall of Georgia area, Buford: about 10 to15 minutes , north on Buford Highway or I-85
The honest weekday note is I-85 southbound:the morning run from Exit 111 toward the I-285 stack backs up in the peak,and the paid lanes help only if you use them. Local runs into Lawrenceville,and toward the mall stay short,and the I-985 leg north stays freer.
The airport
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL): about 40 to55 minutes on a normal day,longer when I-85 or I-285 is congested.
Hartsfield-Jackson is the region's hub. There's no rail station in Suwanee,so the trip is a drive:MARTA rail reaches the airport from Doraville,and other stations to the south,but only after a drive,or bus ride to a station first,which rarely wins on time for a flight.

Suwanee is a strong car-first position with genuinely useful transit on the Buford side:the local route to the mall,the Sugarloaf Mills express hub,and the short I-985 on-ramp make commuting flexible. Most households drive most trips,and the park-and-ride routes are a real option for Atlanta office schedules.
